The champion of champions, this exclusive Mitsubishi Ralliart Lancer Evolution 6.5 Tommi Makinen Edition hits the market as 1 of only 27 Pyrenees Black cars built for Australia and has travelled just 37,000 original kilometres.
Mitsubishi’s storied rally career began way back in 1967, competing at the highest levels on tarmac, gravel and snow. Enjoying evergreen success, by the 1990’s, Mitsubishi was crowned “The King of Rally Racing” and reached its zenith with the Lancer Evolution 6 and the flying Finn, Tommi Makinen winning four consecutive WRC titles from 1996-1999 ahead of greats like Colin McCrae and Carlos Sainz.
Released in 1999 to celebrate the unstoppable force of Makinen and Mitsubishi, the most desirable generation of the Evolution is the Ralliart Tommi Makinen Edition (TME) Evolution 6.5.
A road legal ballistic missile with performance to blow most more expensive makes into the weeds, the Ralliart TME 6.5 is fitted with a race proven 2.0L DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine with intercooled turbocharger and full-time 4WD as well as a number of bespoke parts lifted directly off the WRC car including a faster spinning titanium alloy turbocharger, free-flow exhaust, revised baffled fuel tank, faster steering rack, iconic 17-inch “Tarmac” Enkei alloy wheels, lower ride height with TME tuned inverted-strut suspension, its famous asymmetric front bar and sub-zero cool wall TME embossed Escaine Recaro bucket seats.
The first official generation of Mitsubishi Evolution to be sold in Australia with only 103 units landing on our shores via Ralliart Australia, available here is this incredibly hard to find ADM 2001 Mitsubishi Ralliart Lancer Evolution 6.5 Tommi Makinen Edition, delivered new to a Doctor by DJ Mitsubishi, Hobart in August 2003.
In ‘as delivered’ and phenomenal original condition throughout still today, its first owner, an armchair WRC fanatic that loved watching Tommi Makinen race on Sunday and was also inspired by his Finnish wife to purchase the car, had the paint and interior protected prior to taking delivery. He owned and cherished the car for the next 10 years, servicing it annually putting less than 25,000 Kilometres on the clock before selling it to his son in 2013 and, by 2018, the car was sold via Classic Throttle Shop, Sydney to its current collector owner.
Retaining all of its correct TME features, all tell-tale signs we look for from the pristine Escane Recaro bolsters so often worn through or pilled, to the spotless White Enkei Tarmac alloys and depth of finish to the pearlescent Black paintwork indicate just how well this car has been kept.
Importantly, this car is also accompanied by its original book pack with service log-books, delivery information, service stickers, period paint protection warranty booklet, radio card, and owner’s manual. As well as both original keys and service receipts, the most recent service completed in April of 2024.
There is strong growing interest in special-edition, modern classic cars and rally-bred models continue to lead the pecking order, with the principal value drivers being performance, bespoke mechanical specification, competition bodywork, championship-model association and rarity. This Ralliart TME strongly ticks all the boxes and adds rare Australian delivery, very low kilometres and standout, original condition with great provenance. If there was one you’d hope to find, this is it.
