Among Porsche's most intoxicating concoctions of all time, the 996-generation 911 GT2 Clubsport remains a distilled, unapologetic throwback to a purer, more hard-nose era of the marque’s motorsport-infused road cars.
If the standard 996 GT2 was already a sharpened blade, the marque’s flagship Clubsport variant is the hand-forged weapon in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. And, in a world increasingly softened by comfort and compliance, that matters.
Born from a desire to push the limits of road-going performance, the 996 GT2 debuted in 2001 as:
- Porsche’s first turbocharged GT car
- The first 911 to break the 400 hp milestone barrier
- The most powerful 911 money could buy
With no all-wheel drive, no PSM (Porsche Stability Management) and twin turbochargers force-feeding the Mezger-derived 3.6-litre flat-six producing 462 hp and 620 Nm of torque with just your right foot to manage it, the 996 GT2 quickly developed a reputation that has today made it a cult classic, cementing its position in the line-up of Porsche’s greats.
The Clubsport version turned up the intensity to eleven with factory-fitted upgrades for the track-day purist: a full roll cage, fire extinguisher system, battery cut-off switch, and bucket seats with four-point Schroth racing harnesses and trimmed in flame-retardant fabric. No rear seats. No compromises.
When Autocar first tested the car in 2001, they simply wrote, "This is a 911 for those who think a GT3 is just a bit too soft."
Offered here is this launch year, Australian delivered, factory Clubsport Type 996 GT2 sold new by Porsche Cars Australia (PCA), Victoria in late 2001. One of only 29 delivered to our market and just 70 ever built in right hand drive, this is a superb and exceedingly rare car.

Travelled 77,000 kilometres and ordered by PCA themselves, specified in the 'hero' specification - Arctic Silver Metallic over Black Clubsport trim, mirroring the official marketing material that first stirred enthusiasts into a frenzy, from fire-retardant Recaro buckets, Red Schroth racing harnesses and full roll cage that fixes the sun visors open, this car is a factory time capsule from a wilder period in Porsche’s history.
This car has also been meticulously maintained and features a complete factory service record documented in the original log book and accompanying receipts, the last of which was completed by Porsche Centre Sydney South in December 2024.
This car also carries all the hallmarks we look for in a cherished example, its condition nothing short of exacting. From its paint finish you could fall into, to the neat and tidy original interior trim and a crispness to all drive controls missing in most others, this is not simply a collector-grade example, it’s a reference example.
To drive this GT2 Clubsport today is to experience the last of the true analog widowmakers, a car whose reputation for demanding excellence from its driver has only enhanced its mystique.
This is a 911 that doesn’t flatter, doesn’t compromise, and doesn’t apologise. But give it the respect it deserves, and it delivers one of the most viscerally rewarding experiences of any road car, full stop. It is simply, incredibly fast in all respects.
With values on the rise globally and collector appetites only intensifying for Porsche's greats, this GT2 Clubsport represents the rarest and most potent distillation of the 996 series. In Australian-delivered, factory-spec condition, and with provenance to match its performance, it belongs in the company of the very best.
It’s not just a Porsche GT car. It’s the Porsche GT car of the era.
