Over the last 50 years, Ford’s legendary Rallye Sport stable has produced some of the most successful and desirable motorsport and road cars the world has ever seen.
A blue-collar hero, the RS badge became synonymous for garnishing the working man’s supercar, capable of bloodying the noses of much more expensive machinery on the street.
Few hatchbacks have made a bigger impact than when the Ford Focus RS Mk2 burst onto the scene in 2009. A true WRC car for the road, Auto Express awarded the car which, almost never made it into production, 5/5 stars, commenting “The engineers have done an amazing job. It’s got storming performance, amazing handling and grip but also real character thanks to that charismatic five-cylinder Duratec engine”.
It wasn’t just the headline engine output figures of 300hp and 324lb ft produced using bespoke pistons, conrods and camshafts that made the Mk2 RS an instant cult-classic, or an equipment package that featured a larger Borg Warner K16 turbo that doubled boost pressure, bigger intercooler, freer-breathing intake and exhaust systems, the remapping of fuelling and ignition, Ford’s patented ‘RevoKnuckle’ front suspension, a heavily revised Quaife limited-slip differential plus a 30% stiffer chassis and faster steering rack, or its German build quality, here was a Fast Ford with gobsmacking visuals to blow many more exotic sports cars into the weeds.
With its 19-inch alloys, gaping black-mesh front grille, flared arches, deep diffuser, Recaro bucket seats and large rear wing that would mortify a Porsche Turbo, the Mk2 RS left you in no doubt about its intentions. This was the first Superhatch.
With just two owners from new, this astonishing ‘as new’ 2010 Ford Focus RS Mk2 has travelled just 9,500 kilometres.
Car number 98 of only 315 units delivered new to Australia and ordered in the Hero colour of BP-Ultimate Green that adorned Ford’s WRC cars would have to be the best example seen in a very long time and features an all-Ford service history.
This Mk2 RS has lived a life of luxury. During its time with its first owner of almost 10 years, this car formed part of Australia’s finest muscle car collection and under the custodianship of its last owner, was always garaged, used sparingly and treated to a ceramic coating protect its blemish free, original paintwork.
This Mk2 RS was also recently serviced with Power Ford, Castle Hill in February of this year with zero outstanding items to be addressed and although it did have the Ford remap recall completed when new to sort factory backfire issues, has also had the recommended factory plastic plenum replaced with a cast alloy manifold. The original plenum is included with the sale for originality.
Accompanied by its complete and original book pack with service log book and both original keys kept in the neoprene Ford wallet, as well as its original Ford dealer brochures, 'collector’s edition' Fast Fords ‘bookazine’, Ford beanie and limited-edition diecast model, every tell-tale sign of this car from condition to service history and its complementary memorabilia highlights just how well this car has been cared for.
With performance Fords enjoying their day in the sun eternally and Ford having confirmed that there won't be another Focus RS going forward, this original, finite and very low kilometre example is surely as good as it gets. Borderline unrepeatable and ready to be enjoyed by its next lucky keeper.
